More than 4000 visitors stepped inside the Port Oneida Heritage Center this year. People of all ages enjoyed the impressive Olsen barn, restored landscapes, and farmhouse exhibits. Here they learn about and experience the beauty, history, and significance of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District – an amazing rich heritage within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Sleeping Bear Forever’s volunteer Docents open up the stories of the people who came before us and what is being preserved and why. Thanks to these dedicated volunteers, we were open six days a week this summer as well as during other events. We are so grateful for their passion and the duties they perform to create a welcoming and educational space.
Help us open the doors for even more hours next year so more people can connect! If YOU would like to share these stories and resources with visitors, consider joining our Docent Team!
