Bournique Cottage

The Alvar and Mary Bournique Property was one of the last homestead claims filed on North Manitou and was also the largest, most extensive private summer resort on the island. Although only a small corn crib remains of the farm buildings and the residential buildings are also deteriorating rapidly, the complex is still a very valuable site.

The homestead is architecturally significant and is an important example of resort recreation and agricultural settlement, representing three of the island’s important historical themes.
