Join us for author Susan Wasserman’s presentation on her award-winning book, “Stepping off the Boat: Stories from North Manitou Island”.
North Manitou is an island of 15,000 acres within the national park with a rich and varied history, including eras as a summer resort, logging outpost, and farming community. The award-winning book is a collection of captivating stories and engaging photographs that evokes the layered history of North Manitou Island. Learn about the families of North Manitou Island and let historic photographs bring alive the stories of indigenous peoples, fur traders, lumbermen, farmers, and summer resorters who shaped North Manitou Island, as well as coast guard history.
Let the setting of the Glen Haven Cannery and Boat Museum inspire the evening’s talk with views out to the Manitou Islands. The boat museum will be open after normal hours before the talk, to view the exhibits and boats.
