Government Shutdown: What to Know in Sleeping Bear
During the federal shutdown, here in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the natural areas remain open. Beaches, trails, orchards, dunes, lakes, rivers and Pierce Stocking Drive are accessible to be enjoyed during this beautiful season. Campgrounds will remain open and staffed. Law Enforcement remain on duty, as well as minimal maintenance staff for essential services. Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear’s volunteer projects are paused until further notice.
Please note that the following facilities are closed for visitors at Sleeping Bear including the Empire Visitor Center, Port Oneida Heritage Center, Glen Haven museums, general store, and blacksmith shop. Park interpretation programs have been suspended.
