Cottage Row
Cottage Row is the name given to North Manitou Island’s recreation district, consisting of cottages and hotels along the Eastern coast.
This resort area, which remained active between 1894 and 1950, attempted to turn the island into an exclusive retreat for guests from the mainland.
It provided an atmosphere of leisure and relaxation for visitors, as well as an agricultural market and employment for locals.
Cottage Row represents a distinctive nineteenth-century resort type and is a significant component of the maritime landscape. Several of the buildings are architecturally significant, but unfortunately many are in danger of decay due to neglect.
