ProjectsOver 150 historic structures are in poor or fair condition and are in danger of being lost. Weather can quickly deteriorate a building not stabilized. Time is of the essence. The dollar amount to preserve the remaining buildings and landscapes runs into the millions. We are all well aware of dramatic shortfalls in the federal budget. The Park is doing all it can to compete for the limited federal dollars that are available. We know that people care about this special place, but the Park is prohibited from soliciting funds from the public for its preservation. This is where Preserve—and you—can step in and take action. Preserve can help by: 1. Reaching the numerous buildings and landscapes that the Park has no preservation money for, OR 2. for which scheduled funding continues to be delayed, as is currently the case with a significant project in Port Oneida. In either case, Preserve can ensure that buildings and landscapes do not decay to the point at which they can no longer be recovered. 3. Broadening the scope of the project—for example, sometimes the Park gets funds for stabilization but not restoration or reconstruction. Preserve can help to “finish the job”. To do this we need: Memberships, donations for projects, qualified carpenters and builders ,volunteers and supplies. Check out our How You Can Help page for further information. Go Back :: Home Page |
